Island Stories: Anjouan, Comoros Islands – BBC News

Anjouan is one of the three Comoros Islands that declared independence from France in 1975. One of its main crops is the ylang ylang flower, which is distilled from one of the fragrant ingredients of small distilleries. However, many residents of Anjouan believe that they will have a better life on the island around Mayotte, where they stayed in France and have a higher standard of living. BBC Swahili’s Zuhura Yunus talks to a teenager in Anjouan trying to live with his brother in Mayotte. Then, Ousmani’s brother will visit Mayotte to see how he continues.
