At least 3 killed in 6.0-magnitude earthquake in southern Iran

TEHRAN, Iran – At least three people were killed and 19 others injured when a strong earthquake hit southern Iran early Saturday morning, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

The US Geological Survey said the 6.0-magnitude quake occurred 100 km southwest of the coastal city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province.

According to the Iranian Islamic Republic News Agency, quoting a member of the Islamic Council of the village, three people were killed in the village of Sayeh Khosh, near the epicenter of the quake.

The earthquake occurred just one minute after a 5.7-magnitude quake.

One person was killed in November last year when two earthquakes of magnitude 6.4 and 6.3 struck the province of Hormozgan.

The deadliest earthquake in Iran was the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in 1990, which killed 40,000 people in the north of the country.
