NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WSMV) – After months of waiting, Metro Public Health has launched a series of pop-up COVID booster clinics. A dozen people received new COVID-19 booster shots. Nurses say the boosters are specifically targeting mutant people who are most infected with the virus.
“So is this your fourth shot?” one nurse asked patient Karen Eskander.
Eskander said he was counting down the days until his next COVID-19 booster injection.
“I try to keep up with everything,” says Eskander.
When Eskander heard that Metro Public Health was hosting a series of immunization clinics for the new bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, she immediately drove over.
“I really don’t want to be sick for two weeks, and I don’t even risk COVID taking that long,” Eskander said.
Metro Public Health’s Matt Peters said the new booster shots will also target variants of Omicron.
“It has everything the original vaccine had, but it’s designed to go against the original strain, and it’s also formulated to go with what’s in circulation now, the Omicron variant. said Peters.
Nurses say the booster covers two subvariants of the Omicron subspecies, but you must be 12 or older to get a new booster, and each booster is two months apart.
“If you have any questions or are unsure if it’s right for you, you can come and talk to a team of nurses who are happy to answer any questions,” Peters said.
Peters says it’s safe to get a booster along with your annual flu shot.
That’s what Karen said she was grateful for. Anything to keep her healthy.
“I have my first grandchild who is due anytime soon, and I want to spend time with that baby,” Eskander said.
The department’s next clinic will be held at the same location on September 14th.
