A 5.7 magnitude earthquake off the Oregon coast

The tsunami that FEMA forgot about.

The National Hazard Index that's supposed to help U.S. communities save lives in a natural disaster may be fatally flawed when it comes to Western Washington. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) set up the index as a way to direct money to the most vulnerable communities before the worst happens to build things like shelters and escape routes. However, scientists and disaster planners tell FOX 13, Chief Meteorologist Brian McMillan, FEMA has overshot the most obvious danger facing Washington state.

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the Oregon coast Tuesday evening.

According to the Geological Society of the United States (USGS), the quake occurred 110 miles off the coast of Port Orford around 8:23 PM PT and at a depth of about six miles.

People reported feeling the quake in California and Oregon. Anyone who felt the earthquake can report it to the USGS.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.
