7.2 magnitude earthquake hits Russian coast, tsunami warning issued
A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka region at a depth of 51 km (32 miles), the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said on Saturday.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said the quake, which struck at 8.10pm UK time, was recorded at a depth of about 29 kilometres (18 miles).

The US National Tsunami Warning Center said there was a threat of a tsunami from the earthquake, noting the possibility of waves “reaching 0.3 meters to one meter” above the high tide level in some Russian coastal areas.
She added that any potential tsunami or strong waves are likely to hit the area around 8.30pm to 9pm British time.
The US Geological Survey said the earthquake's effects were likely to be limited in terms of landslides or liquefaction, and that there was a “small possibility” of injuries.
The USGS added that the quake was felt more than 100 kilometres (62 miles) from its epi
The local Emergencies Ministry said the tremors were felt along the coast including in the regional capital Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and that “operational teams of rescuers and firefighters are inspecting buildings.”
The agency also stated that there is no danger of a tsunami and that the aftershocks recorded from the earthquake ranged in magnitude from 3.9 to 5.0.
“Most of the aftershocks are not felt,” the regional emergency service said on Telegram.
The area lies in a seismically active belt surrounding most of the Pacific Ocean, known as the “Ring of Fire”, and contains more than twenty active volcanoes.
The area was also hit by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake in 1952, which is said to have caused a large tsunami.
This comes after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Japan earlier this month on the southwestern island of Kyushu.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said after the Aug. 8 earthquake that tsunami waves up to 50 centimeters high were monitored along parts of the southern coast of Kyushu and nearby Shikoku island about half an hour after the quake struck.
