EBRD Board visits Türkiye for post-earthquake consultations and review

The EBRD Board of Directors will visit Turkey from 15 to 20 September as part of its regular consultations in the economies where the Bank operates. The five-day visit will provide an opportunity for shareholder representatives to engage with senior government officials, business leaders, international partners and civil society organisations.

The visiting EBRD Board of Directors includes Yasmine Guerci (Turkey, Romania, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Kyrgyz Republic, Algeria), David Avarello (Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia), Michael Ofer (Germany), Yann Poizat (France), Maria Shaw Barragan (European Investment Bank), Christina Akesson (Sweden, Iceland, Estonia), Enrique Alejo (Spain, Mexico, UAE, Iraq), Carlos Dominguez (Portugal, Greece, San Marino, India), Mark Paskins (UK) and Sean Lee (Alternate Director for Australia, Korea, New Zealand, Egypt).

During their visit, the Directors will meet with key government officials, including Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz and Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek. In addition, they will engage with representatives of the private sector and civil society organizations to discuss ongoing projects and future cooperation.

The programme includes visits to cities in southeastern Turkey, which were devastated by a series of earthquakes in 2023, killing more than 50,000 people and causing widespread destruction. In the wake of the earthquakes, the EBRD launched a €1.5 billion response package to support the region, focusing on credit lines for businesses and individuals, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and infrastructure investments. More than €1 billion of this package has already been disbursed.

In Turkey, the EBRD focuses on green investments, financial resilience, the knowledge economy and promoting inclusion. In 2023, the Bank invested a record €2.5 billion in Turkey, driven by its rapid response to earthquakes and climate-focused initiatives. The last EBRD Board visit to Turkey was in 2017.

As a major investor in Turkey, the EBRD has invested over €20 billion in 451 projects and trade finance lines since 2009, targeting primarily the private sector.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
