San Diego officials are looking for a woman exposed to a rabies bat that could infect her and one other visitor after a crazy bat flew around her at a local zoo.
A bat flying around an unidentified woman was found at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park near Escondido late Sunday morning, according to the San Diego Department of Health and Human Services.
Bats that are not zoo animals were later captured and found to be infected with rabies.
The search for women and another who may have been in direct contact with a rabies animal is in search of women and their fear of being exposed to a deadly virus.

Visitors to the zoo saw bats flying around the woman at Sunday’s Mombasa Cooker, a restaurant in the Nairobi Village area of the park around 11:30 am.
Employees in the park caught the bats and handed them over to the county’s health authorities, which confirmed the bats to be rabies.
Health officials are currently seeking public help in finding women who have left the park without providing contact information.
“We are worried about the health of our patrons who have been in direct contact with this woman and bats,” said Eric McDonald, MD of the Department of Epidemiology and Vaccinations.
“I want to make sure they aren’t potentially exposed to this deadly disease.”
Authorities reassured that visitors to other zoos who did not come into contact with the bats were not at risk of rabies.

At around 11:30 on Sunday, zoo visitors saw bats flying around the woman at Mombasa Cooker, a restaurant in the park’s Nairobi Village area.
Rabies is a deadly virus that spreads to humans from the saliva of rabies animals such as bats, foxes and raccoons.
It is usually transmitted via a bite, but can also pass through the animal’s saliva in contact with the human eye, nose, mouth, or open wound.
The virus is fatal if not treated shortly after infection and before symptoms begin to appear.
It attacks the central nervous system, eventually causing brain disease and death.
Map of the zoo. In the fear of being exposed to rabies, a search is currently underway for another person who may have been in direct contact with a woman and a rabies animal.
This latest encounter is the latest in a series of events in which rabies bats have been detected in both zoos and wider counties.
This year alone, four other rabies bats were detected in San Diego County.
In April 2017, a rabies bat was detected at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
This is due to the detection of another dog in the park in September 2016 and the death of the rabies bat in 2015.
