Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made two new additions to their press team, hiring a public relations manager and a press secretary.

The couple built their American team before launching their charity Archewell, after losing their royal press team when they left the monarchy.

So who did they choose?

Former Pinterest chief communications officer Christine Schirmer has been hired to lead their press team, and former footballer and communications director Toya Holness is their new press secretary.

As PRWeek reports, the new staff additions have been confirmed by Harry and Meghan’s PR firm Sunshine Sachs.

They made the new recruits in order to help them start the Archewell charity, named in honor of their son.

The news comes after the pair came under fire for previous media moves in recent weeks.

This week, they faced criticism from critics for hiring a famous photographer to take photos of them laying wreaths on Remembrance Day.

They were photographed laying flowers at the graves of two Commonwealth soldiers, one from the Royal Australian Airforce and the other from the Royal Canadian Artillery.

Celebrity photographer Lee Morgan, who captured the photos, has worked with celebrities such as Kanye West and Vogue magazine before.

One of the critics included outspoken Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, who often denounces Meghan.

He wrote: “It’s just outrageous to treat Remembrance Sunday as a public relations opportunity.”

Responding to another person on Twitter who defended the couple and suggested they leave them alone, Morgan wrote: “If they wanted to be ‘left alone’ they wouldn’t do everyday PR stunts to attract media attention. “

Chris Ship, editor of ITV News, tweeted the photos, which also received a mixed response from social media.

“You really don’t understand the need for this photo shoot?” said one follower.

“Who brings a photographer to a cemetery?” another asked.

Others were more supportive: “Glad to see them pay homage today and such a shame that it is not at the Cenotaph in London. Keep up the good work Harry and Meghan,” wrote a royal watcher.

Harry and Meghan’s Remembrance Day visit comes after Buckingham Palace allegedly ‘refused’ permission to lay a wreath in his name at the Cenotaph war memorial in London.

The Times reported that Harry personally made the request at Buckingham Palace, but was turned down by courtiers on the grounds that he no longer represented the monarchy since leaving the royal family earlier this year.

The Queen would not have been informed of her grandson’s request and Harry would have been “deeply saddened” by the rejection.

These new hires are rumored to help the couple avoid future PR mistakes like this one.
