Professional voice actors visit online Barton theater class
The director of Barton Theater Miller James is originally from California and has acted professionally in a variety of contexts and now uses some of his contacts to conduct his lessons now that they are delivered virtually. Her comedy students will have the pleasure of hearing two professional voice-over (VO) actresses this week, Amanda Terman and Corina Boettger.
James said he wanted to show his students the importance of having a variety of ways to find work.
There are many opportunities to use acting skills online, he said. The actors of the VO work on projects such as advertisements, book readings, radio spots and vocal animation work. Terman said that there are many great aspects to continuing the work of VO.
From a daily life perspective, I like that the OV keeps me busier because I get dozens and dozens of hearings a day, as opposed to just a few for the cameras, she said. declared. I also like that the work is mainly done during normal office hours.
Boettger noted other things she sees as positive benefits from the OV game.
In acting for the camera or the theater, it doesn’t matter how I look, she said. It doesn’t matter how good an actor I am if I don’t physically look like the character. In dubbing, I can be any character my voice leaves me, so I can play a lot more with my characters and take on different types of performances.
Boettger encouraged aspiring actors to learn about all aspects of the industry.
Take a business class, she says. Playing is fun, but it’s also a bargain, and if you can’t read and understand your contracts, it can be dangerous. Don’t be afraid to speak up and defend yourself. Persevere. If this is really what you want to do, you will have weak points but you will have to keep moving.
The two actresses said they were happy to help Miller in her class.
Miller has always supported me as an actor, so I wanted to reciprocate and I really love teaching theater, said Boettger. I regularly coach people because I like to play and teach means that I can talk about what I like.
