Lions business split by Rebel Red COVID limit – CBS Denver

Lions, Colorado (CBS4) – Freedom was the cry of a rally of about 20 people who came to Lionsden on Sunday.

“We have closed the blockade,” said protester Rebecca Roberts.

They want to save local businesses like Lionsden by rolling back the capacity limits and masking requirements enforced by the state.

“If you want to wear a mask well, but you have to start a business,” Roberts said.

“It’s a complete breach of our constitutional rights,” said Kendra Parasol.

They say they don’t think the virus is as bad as media and medical experts say, and these restrictions they are protesting are far more harmful to the country.

“People lose their jobs and the stress is very high. Children can’t go to school. It’s insane what’s going on. Sufficient!”

Not all Lions business owners feel the same. Some people don’t like the demo.

“I go back and forth between anger and sadness,” said Crystal Decoster.

She owns the Western Stars Gallery & Studio next door. She says the business was hard, but they were able to succeed even if they followed the rules imposed by the state.

“August, September and October were the best I’ve ever had,” she said.

Decosters say that being creative in the way they do business saved them. I think they could look at their neighbors and do more to stay open despite the regulations.

“But instead, they were busy pointing and blaming, and didn’t follow the rules at all,” she said.

Protesters who came to Lions believe that Lions Den should not have been forced to change their business model from the beginning.

“We have to get back to work, we have to open America. America is a free democracy!” Roberts said.

Decoster says she intends to stay on duty and knows that whatever happens to her neighbors, the community will help her and her business survive these difficult times.

“This is a very loving city and they showed it in spades for us,” Decoster said.

The rally was originally scheduled for Saturday, but the organizer changed it to Sunday. When they did that, Western Stars had to cancel the fundraising activities they had set up for Lions firefighters.
