Be careful as the corona vaccine arrives in Pennsylvania
Dr. Rachel Levin, Director of Health, Pennsylvania, explained the state’s vaccine distribution progress on Monday and updated the public about the increasing number of covid victims in the state.
Levine reported 7,745 new covid-19 cases across the state on Monday and 7,355 on Sunday, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 563,589. 57 new deaths were reported on Monday and 99 on Sunday, bringing the total number of state deaths from the virus to 13,981.
According to the state’s covid-19 data dashboard, Pennsylvania has 6,090 patients admitted with covid-19. Of these, 1,217 are on intensive care and 738 are on ventilator.
“Our hospitals and our healthcare system continue to face major challenges with covid-19,” he said, noting that staff shortages continue to be a problem in the South West region.
As of Monday, Levine said 17,700 doses of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine had been given to healthcare professionals. The state received about 97,500 doses from the federal government last week and is expected to receive another 30,225 doses this week, Levine said.
The Ministry of Health reported that 87 hospitals received their first dose by 20 December. “But it will take some time to continue immunizing healthcare professionals,” Levine said.

Levine repeatedly pleaded with the general public to follow social distance and mask wearing guidelines and to refrain from gathering at Christmas and New Year holidays.
“When we start the vaccination process, it will still be months before manufacturers produce enough vaccines to immunize the general public,” she said. “That is, mitigation is more important than ever.”
She pointed out that no vaccination is 100% effective. It is imperative that even vaccinated workers pay attention until the general public is vaccinated.
