The UK government has said it is “very concerned” about two cases of a new coronavirus mutation identified in people arriving from South Africa. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the new strain of the virus is even more infectious than the latest new variant – it is believed to be causing a sharp rise in UK cases. The UK has imposed travel restrictions on South Africa and said anyone who has recently returned from the country should be placed in immediate quarantine.
