Local nursing homes continue to wait for COVID-19 vaccine
Quincy (WGEM)-Some Illinois nursing homes received their first coronavirus vaccine on Monday as part of a partnership between the federal government, Walgreens, and CVS, but Quincy’s nursing homes are still waiting. say.
“We hope the vaccine is coming soon,” said Charles Newton, CEO and administrator of Good Sumaritan Home. “My suspicions are in the next few weeks, but again, we don’t know.”
Staff at both Good Samaritan and St Vincent’s Nursing and Retirement Campus say they are still waiting to get a green light from CVS.
“They arrive about three weeks later, come back, and then three weeks later, a third time,” said Diana Smith, director of nursing at St. Vincent.
But Smith said the vaccine doesn’t magically bring everything back to normal.
“For now, it has a short-term impact, but it won’t be that big,” Smith said. “We still have to follow all the same guidelines we are now following.”

“Maybe people can be vaccinated, but they can still be carriers. That’s my understanding and we have to be very careful about it.” Newton said.

CVS Health officials said they started vaccination in 12 states last week.
They started on Monday in another 36 states, including Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri.
Walgreens officials announced last week that members of the pharmacy team began vaccination at approximately 800 long-term care facilities in 12 states.
