Expected additional vaccine shipments in the 70+ age group – CBS Denver

Summit County, Colorado (CBS4)– Within hours of the Summit County announcement on Wednesday that it would begin vaccination of community members over the age of 70, reservations were full.

“According to state demographers, this group includes about 3,000 people and can only be given 814 doses this week,” said Amy Wineland, director of public health at Summit County.

Wineland spoke to the media at a meeting Wednesday afternoon after the announcement.

“We know that we will continue to take doses weekly, so we will start vaccination against the population known to be the most vulnerable in our community,” she continued. “We had to protect them. All the time we’ve done a great job of it, but if they get it, they have a 500 chance of dying in COVID. We know it’s twice as expensive, so we’re really excited to vaccinate this population. “
