Mark Drakeford explains why thousands of Covid vaccines haven’t been used yet in Wales

“That 250,000 doses last for 6 weeks, so I haven’t seen everything used in the first week because I need to leave some space for the weeks that need to be covered.

“We expect a significant increase in the Oxford vaccine coming to Wales next week. We will use it all because it is much easier to use and can be used by general practitioners and others.

“We will continue to use the Pfizer vaccine in the sense that we will use it all before the next delivery.”

His comments seem to have frowned among some of his political opponents, including Plaid Cymru’s health spokesman Rhunap Iorwerth.

“That’s right. Get it out as soon as possible,” said Ynys Mon MS, citing a Welsh general practitioner who said the decision was “clinically meaningless.”

Conservative Party lawmaker Rob Roberts also said he was “confused” in the comments.

He states: “The Welsh government received more than 300,000 doses and gave about 125,000 doses.

“Surgery across North Wales is said to be delayed in planned delivery. I don’t know why it’s stored tens of thousands of times.

“People are scared and worried. The Health Commission has a coherent plan to get the job done.

“But what can they do if there is no vaccine in people’s arms because WGov does not send the vaccine?

“Why are the people of North Wales repeatedly disappointed by the Welsh Labor Party?”
