Graves County, Kentucky — According to the latest map of the Kentucky Public Health Service, all 120 counties in Kentucky are outside the COVID-19 red zone.
The color-coded zones reflect the incidence of COVID-19 in each county in the state. In the red zone counties, the average daily number of cases per 100,000 people exceeds 25, followed by the orange zone with an average of 10 to 25 cases per 100,000 people per day, and in the yellow zone 100,000 cases. Almost all of the six counties in western Kentucky are in the yellow or green zone as of Thursday. The only exception is Graves County, which is located in the orange zone.
Yellow counties in the six local regions include Ballard, Caldwell, Callaway, Crittenden, Fulton, Hickman, Livingston, Marshall, McCracken, and Trigg County. Carlisle and Lyon counties are located in the Green Zone.
Noel Coplen, director of the Graves County Health Department, said the county was still stuck on the plateau.
According to Coplen, Graves County sees about 30 new cases of COVID-19 per week.

“Of the 30 people a week, many are children and young people,” says Coplen. “And we don’t think that age group is positive because many older people are vaccinated.”
However, hospitalizations are declining and there have been no deaths associated with the new coronavirus in the county in recent weeks. Coplen said the number one factor in keeping the county on the plateau and preventing it from leaving the orange zone is vaccination, which is to get young people vaccinated.
“I think our cases will decrease further as more people get vaccinated over time,” Coplen said.
The health department will partner with local schools to increase vaccinations.
“We’re just trying to reach out. We encourage people to go where they are and get them through health centers and clinics,” Coplen said.
The health department will receive Pfizer’s vaccine on Monday. For people over 12 years old. Mr. Coplen said he hopes this will give young people the courage to hit shots and help the county get out of the orange zone.
The Graves County Health Department has used mobile medical units to visit local churches and soccer fields to encourage vaccinations.
The health department will be vaccinated with Pfizer on Monday, Johnson & Johnson on Wednesday, and Modana on Friday.
