Netflix India partners with producer Excel Entertainment – The Hollywood Reporter
Global streaming giant Netflix has unveiled a strategic multi-year partnership with Ritesh Sidhwani’s TV banner and Farhan Akhtar’s Indian film and series production company Excel Entertainment.
Excel is behind “the cult classic Dil Chahta Hai, in the same way Rock on, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Lakshya, Toofaan and the put on franchise, ”the companies pointed out. The pact, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, adds to Netflix’s lineup in India.
As one of the pioneers of long-form on-demand storytelling, Excel Entertainment will produce a variety of stories under the banner of its Excel Media & Entertainment series for Netflix members in over 190 countries, starting with two projects provisionally titled Dabba Cartel and Queen of the HillThe companies said.
Dabba Cartel is the story of five housewives who run a high-stakes secret cartel. Queen of the Hill recounts the relationship between two ambitious women, offering “style, ambition, love, friendship and betrayal against the backdrop of rich 1960s jazz in Mumbai,” according to a plot description.
