Michael Levin dead at 90

Michel Levinan actor best known for playing reporter Jack Fenelli on the ABC daytime soap opera Ryan’s Hope, is dead. He was 90 years old.
Levin’s son, Jason Levin, confirmed The Hollywood Reporter that the actor died on January 6 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, New York, of natural causes.
popular drama Ryan’s Hope followed characters Johnny and Maeve Ryan, who ran a bar called Ryan’s, with their children in New York. The show ran for 13 seasons from 1975 to 1989, and Levin appeared in 1075 episodesaccording to IMDB.
In the series, Levin’s character falls in love with the titular couple’s daughter, Mary, played by Kate Mulgrew, and eventually weds into the family. Their romance has been a major plot point throughout many seasons of the show, and the duo have become one of the daytime soap opera’s most beloved couples.
The role earned Levin three Daytimes Emmy Nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series in 1978, 1979 and 1980.

Levin was born in Minneapolis on December 8, 1932, and later worked on his craft at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, where his son narrated The Hollywood Reporter which he starred alongside Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy.
He eventually moved to California and took acting classes with Jack Nicholson and Robert Blake, per IMDB. He also served two years in the United States Navy and had a penchant for woodworking.
Along with his role in Ryan’s HopeLevin also appeared in episodes of the daytime soap operas All my children and As the world turnsas well as series broadcast in prime time including Law and order, NYPD and The equalizer.
He has also performed in several Broadway shows such as The royal chase of the sun, by Sam Shepard Operation Sidewinder, Bertold Brecht The Good Wife of Setzuan and Highwayin which he starred with Al Pacino, by THR.

“I’m very happy acting and I’m very happy when I’m working,” Levin said in 1978 to Rona Barrett. Daytimer magazine. “But that’s only when I’m working. I also find that about ninety percent of what’s available to an actor isn’t that good. I don’t like doing commercials and I don’t don’t like to make bad plays.”
Levin is now survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his sons Jason and Aaron, and his grandchildren Veronica and Nico, by THR.
