The 34th annual Minot State University Spring Dance and Powwow Celebration is scheduled for Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 at the MSU Dome. The event is free and open to the public.

MSU puts on this large-scale event every year and it requires incredible teamwork.

“We need a committee” said Annette Mennem, director of the Native American Center. “It is impossible for one person to organize an event of this magnitude. »

In addition to MSU students, Minot Air Force Base and community volunteers, the university also has a committee. This committee includes MSU's vice president of student affairs, faculty, staff and students.

A powwow is a celebration of life. It is a time when people of all ages come together to sing, dance, renew old friendships, make new friends and share the beauty of indigenous people with all.

The groups and committees responsible for organizing this year's powwow are also expanding the event.

“This year, the spring dance of honor and powwow celebration evolved into a 'celebration week'” I'm going, you said.

“Celebration Week” will include the grand opening of Plum River Native Prairie Grassland (former location of Erik Ramstad Middle School) on Saturday, April 27 at 11 a.m.

Registration for dancers and drummers opens Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m. and closes Saturday, April 27 at 12:30 p.m. Entry times are 7 p.m. Friday, April 26 and 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday April 27.

Charlie Moran is this year's master of ceremonies. Wade Baker is arena director and Mennem is powwow director.
