Seventh grader Hazelwood makes acting debut | “Abbott Elementary School”
The young actor stopped by Today in St. Louis Weekend Edition to talk about his new role and his acting career.
HAZELWOOD, Mo. The Hazelwood School District is celebrating North Middle seventh grader Jacob Feaman and his acting debut as a co-star in the award-winning television series Abbott Elementary.
In a releasethe district announced that Feaman has been developing his talent since attending Ignite Theater Company, a two-time nationally award-winning youth theater company in St. Louis.
“His passion for the performing arts led him through a demanding elimination process during the iPOP Talent Convention competition that started with 5,000 children and, in the end, left him as one of the few children to being able to choose an agent and a manager,” the statement said. “He auditioned for a role in Abbott Elementary through his agent and was chosen to play the role.”
Feaman said he was the best actor in the talent show.
We had to learn two monologues, a song and two commercials, Jacob explained. I won five medals. If you add it all up, I won actor of the year,” Feaman said. “We had several managers and agents that we could choose from who were trying to work with me. I was surprised. I was like, I'm fine here; maybe I should be an actor.”
The show follows a group of dedicated and passionate teachers and a principal in a predominantly Philadelphia public school where, despite obstacles, they are determined to help their students succeed in life.

Recently, Feaman auditioned for a Netflix show and will audition for a lead character role in a movie this year. This role will be Jacob's first time being cast as the main character if his audition is successful.
