Actor Jeff Daniels says he hopes voters choose Biden amid 'war on democracy'

Actor Jeff Daniels said he hopes 2024 general election voters ultimately choose President Biden amid what he called the ongoing “war on democracy.”

“The Newsroom” actor said former President Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, is “talking down” to Midwesterners and that “middle” voters are “watching” the GOP “destroy itself.”

“But we are flyover country, and we still are, we have a chip on our shoulder about that. And we get [it] – we are not as stupid as people, like Trump in particular, think. He speaks to us. He speaks in front of us. He lies to us. And yet, we get it,” Daniels said during his appearance Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” where he was promoting his new Netflix drama “A Man in Full.”

Daniels said there are two “wars” going on, one within the Republican Party and the other for “democracy.” He hopes that “middle” voters will vote for Biden in November because the election they want to participate in will take place in 2028.

“And I think that's when voters – and I will be – will be cautiously optimistic and think that people in the middle, people in states like Michigan, will say, 'You know what? We’re better than that,” Daniels said.

“I'm going to vote for Biden, even though he's old, which also translates to wisdom and wisdom, which we might need right now, because the election I really want to vote for is 2028, when people now present themselves with the future.' All these people,” he said.
