Actor and Emmy Award winner, the late Gary Sievers, inducted into EPCHS Hall

EVERGREEN PARK, IL Evergreen Park Community High School added a name to its list of Hall of Famers. Gary Sieversa 1968 EPCHS who became famous for his acting, public speaking, radio and television work, community service, civic leadership and teaching, was posthumously inducted into the Hall of the reputation of the school during the evening of honor ceremony held on April 29.

Sievers died last December. The honor was accepted Monday evening by his wife, Claire Sievers, his daughter-in-law, Jenna Venezia and his son, Brian Sievers.

While Gary Sievers was a student at EPCHS, he was involved in many sports and activities, including serving as student council president and winning the Senior Service Award in 1968. As a member of the Speech Club, Sievers is became the first EPCHS. student in school history to be invited to the new Champions Tournament in Trier.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University then a Master of Arts in Theater Arts/Cinema and Theology from UCLA, Sievers distinguished himself in the fields of theater, public speaking, radio/television/film, community service/ civic leadership and teaching.

As an actor, Sievers was perhaps best known for his one-man show, Give them hell, Harry! at colleges and universities across the country. In public speaking, he was listed in the Biltmores Whos Who of Public Speakers and was an officer for three years in the National Speakers Association based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

His radio, television and film career includes three Emmy Awards for his work on Inside Maricopa Sports. He also served as a voice-over spokesperson for three years for the Smittys grocery chain in Phoenix, Arizona, and directed more than 1,000 commercials for Doner advertising in Detroit And Yaffee Advertising Southfield Michigan and was the first television voiceover for Dos Equis Beer in America. He worked in radio for UCLA athletics for many years, having been on the air during John Wooden's NCAA basketball championship finale and Rose Bowl upset victory of UCLA in 1976 against top-ranked Ohio State.

In 2017, Sievers received the Presidential Lifetime Community Service Award for his nearly 8,000 hours of service. His teaching career includes stops at UCLA and Arizona State University.
