Get Connected Tonight: TNT Launches “Shaq Life” – Entertainment – Palm Beach Daily News

Does sports celebrity translate into different places? “Shaq Life” (9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. TNT) makes its debut after the four-time NBA champion as he attempts to expand his presence and “brand” to new businesses. “Life” will document his attempts to train as the ultimate fighter and to enter the ring in an MMA match. The series, narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, will also capture O’Neal at home with his six children and as a DJ.

The basketball star appeared in scripted dishes, from the 1996 musical fantasy “Kazaam” to the voice of “The Simpsons”. He hosted an ABC lifestyle series, “Shaq’s Big Challenge”, in 2007, challenging students to lose weight and get healthy. He was followed by a reality TV team in the ESPN series “Shaquille” in 2005. He also lent his image to the 1994 video game “Shaq-Fu”.

“Shaq Life” also invites viewers to watch some of his favorite movies before his reality show. Tonight’s popcorn is “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2” (6 p.m. TNT, TV-14).

O’Neal’s most recent celebrity brush may not have been planned. He appears very briefly in the very popular Netflix series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”. Since then, he has denied being associated with the “star” of the series, Joe Exotic, a “colorful” tiger collector and a showman convicted in a murder plot for an account against the animal rights activist and collector of large cats. Carole Baskin, whose wealthy husband disappeared in mysterious circumstances.

Among the many bizarre aspects of “Tiger King”, the way the presence of jungle cats (and arsenals of heavy weapons) allows Joe Exotic and his tiger mentor, Bhagavan “Doc” Antle, to amass harems of lovers and living like warlords in a mall.

It is curious, at the very least, why a larger-than-life celebrity of Shaquille O’Neal’s stature needs the boost of the male ego that collecting tigers provides.

– The legal melodrama “The Good Fight” begins broadcasting its fourth season on CBS All Access. With an astonishing cast of many actors with stage sets, “Good Fight” uses legal squabbles and courtroom settings to provide the characters with long spoonfuls of just dialogue, not to be confused with speeches.
