Group of gun-wielding robbers target Michael Hill jewelry store in Dress Smart Onehunga
A Michael Hill jewelry store in popular south Auckland shopping center Dress Smart Onehunga was the target of a brazen robbery this afternoon.
A police spokesperson said they received reports of a robbery at a shopping complex on Arthur St at around 2.25pm.
It appears a group of people entered the premises with weapons, which were not firearms, and broke several cabinets, police said.
The suspected thieves can be heard breaking glass before one person tells shoppers to please evacuate in a video obtained by the Herald.
A group of four people dressed in black and white clothing can be seen running through the mall with bags while other nearby store employees hurriedly slam their doors.
Another video seen by the Herald shows shoppers running out of the mall, followed by two suspected thieves, who get into a vehicle waiting outside the entrance.
Police said several officers were now in the area trying to establish the full circumstances of the raid, including finding out what was stolen and locating those involved.
THE Herald It appears that one of the suspected robbers was wielding a machete.
Fortunately, no people who were in and around the scene were reported at the time, and police will provide support to those affected, police said.
