Iraq discovers ISIS underground training camp
Iraqi authorities announced on Friday that they had found an ISIS underground training camp during the second day of Tarmiyah’s operations north of Baghdad against the remains of the terrorist organization.
The Tarmiyah operation has achieved enormous results that would have a positive impact on the security of the region in the coming days, said Ali Jabouri, a commander.
ISIS’s underground hideout consisted of eight rooms and was used to hide terrorists and train them to target Iraqi forces, said Jabouri.
Operation Tarmiyah was launched on Thursday with the participation of brigades 42, 43 and 12, a joint force from Baghdad Operations Command, rapid reaction forces and federal police with the support of the Iraqi air force.
It aims to target the remnants of ISIS, arrest wanted persons, strengthen security and stability, end security breaches and protect the interests of citizens.
Since the start of the operation, Iraqi forces have found five ISIS hiding places, arrested a number of wanted persons and handed them over to the Baghdad Operations Command.
Iraqi forces foiled an ISIS attack south of Samarra.
The Popular Mobilization Forces said in a statement that a 41st brigade force responded Thursday evening to an attack by ISIS operatives in the Tal al-Dhahab region.
Meanwhile, MP Mohammed al-Karbouli, a member of the parliamentary security and defense committee, denounced the campaigns of arbitrary arrests north of Baghdad.
He said the security forces once again made mistakes in arresting and terrorizing innocent residents.
Karbouli revealed that more than 50 young men had been humiliated in front of their families.
The Sunnis are perhaps the weakest because of the financial and moral campaign launched against them, he said.
