Donald Trump will travel to Charlotte for a private fundraiser on Saturday

The former president will make a quick stop in Charlotte before heading to Wilmington for a campaign rally, officials said.

CHARLOTTE, NC Former President Donald Trump is expected to visit Charlotte this weekend.

Trump will be in the Queen City on Saturday for a fundraiser, according to the Republican National Committee. The event is private and not open to the media. It is unclear when and where Trump will appear during his visit.

After his stop in Charlotte, Trump will travel to Wilmington for a campaign rally. This will be Trump's first visit to Wilmington since September 2022. The rally will take place at the Aero Center at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, a 12-person jury was in session this week in Trump's historic hush money trial. The case marks the first-ever trial of a former U.S. president and takes place this year amid the race for the White House.

The lawsuit centers on a $130,000 payment that her then-lawyer Michael Cohen made shortly before the 2016 election to pornographic actor Stormy Daniels to prevent her allegations of a sexual relationship with Trump from being made public during the last days of the race.

Prosecutors say Trump obscured the true nature of the payments in internal records when his company reimbursed Cohen, who pleaded guilty to federal charges in 2018 and is expected to be a star witness for the prosecution.

Trump has denied having a sexual relationship with Daniels and his lawyers argue that the payments to Cohen were legitimate legal fees.

Trump, who dominated the primary election, will face President Joe Biden in November. This is the first presidential rematch since the 1950s.
