President Erdoan and Azerbaijani Prime Minister Asadov discuss Gaza, bilateral relations
President Recep Tayyip Erdoan on Wednesday discussed bilateral relations, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and Azerbaijan-Armenia peace talks with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov at the presidential complex in Ankara, the capital of Trkiye.
Erdoan and Asadov also discussed regional and global developments during a meeting held at the presidential complex in the capital Ankara.
“Expressing hope for a positive outcome of the meeting to be held in Almaty on May 10, President Erdoan said that the progress made in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan is satisfactory and that a peace agreement should be signed as soon as possible, so that the region achieves the stability it aspires to,” said the Presidential Directorate of Communications.
Stressing that Ankara and Baku will continue their “close cooperation” to prevent “unilateral and biased external interventions from turning the region into a geopolitical conflict zone,” Erdoan said Trkiye would continue to support Azerbaijan.
Stressing that Israel seeks to expand the war to the region and that although Hamas has accepted the ceasefire, Tel Aviv continues its attacks, President Erdoan said the Organization of Turkish States could engage in further cooperation to provide humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
Sending his congratulations to Azerbaijan for hosting the upcoming COP29 conference, Erdoan expressed Trkiye's readiness for any kind of support in terms of preparation.
Asadov previously met with Vice President Cevdet Ylmaz.
Following a bilateral meeting, Ylmaz and Asadov co-chaired the meeting of the Trkiye-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Commission.
Turkey's support was also important for Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War in 2020, when Baku liberated the border territory from three decades of illegal Armenian occupation in 44 days of clashes that ended in a peace agreement brokered by Russia and opened the door to normalization with its rival.
