Azadi March case accuses Imran Khan and party members acquitted

Islamabad [Pakistan]October 19 (ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan and several other party leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, were acquitted on Saturday in the Azadi March case, ARY News reported.

Civil court judge Shehzad Khan announced the verdict and acquitted Raja Khurram Shehzad, Imran Ismail and Ali Nawaz Awan, ARY News reported.

Several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and others, have been arrested by the police in various FIRs related to the Azadi march.

Police had registered 42 cases against senior PTI leaders and workers over agitation that occurred after clashes between police and Imran Khan in Islamabad, according to ARY News.

In a separate development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ruled on the petition filed by Imran Khan, seeking a court order from the government not to hold his military trial in cases related to May 9, as reported ARY News.

The order was passed by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb when he was informed that the government was yet to take any decision regarding the military trial of PTI founder Imran Khan. During the hearing, Additional Attorney General of Pakistan (AAG) Munawar Iqbal Duggal told the court that if such a decision was taken, legal procedure would be followed, according to ARY News.

“If the government decides in favor of the trial, it would first file an application in the court of a civil magistrate,” he said, as quoted by ARY News.

Earlier on October 14, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, were on Saturday transferred to Jhelum district jail from Adiala jail in Rawalpindi after an anti-terrorism court dismissed a police request to extend their pre-trial detention, Dawn reported. .

The court ordered that they be transferred to prison on remand, according to Dawn. (ANI)
