President-elect Donald Trump is expected to nominate Stephen Miller as deputy chief of staff for policy at the White House.

The role brings Miller back to the White House where he is expected to play a leading role in drafting and implementing Trump's immigration agenda, which includes plans for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.

“This is another fantastic choice by the president,” Vice President-elect JD Vance posted on x.com, an apparent confirmation of Miller's rumored nomination, first reported by CNN.

Miller is one of Trump's longest-serving and most trusted advisers. He worked with Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign before joining him in the White House as a senior adviser.

He is best known for his role as the lead author of some of the Trump administration's most ambitious immigration plans during his first administration, including the highly controversial zero-tolerance policies that led to child separation of their parents.

Once Trump left office, Miller launched America First Legal, a nonprofit meant to be the conservative version of the ACLU. He worked with conservative lawyers who filed hundreds of lawsuits and legal demands, on behalf of conservative causes and against Democrats.

Miller will likely be one of the most controversial picks in the new Trump administration. But because the deputy position is not a cabinet position, he will not need to seek Senate confirmation.

In the latter part of Trump's 2024 campaign, Miller reprized his warm-up role at some rallies.

“You can take your country back, you can take your future back, you can take your state back,” Miller said at one of Trump’s final rallies in Salem, Virginia.

“You can look your children in the eye and say, 'We did it, we saved America, we saved this republic. We didn't let this republic be stolen from us.'”
