Will Yogi Adityanath show up at PM in the future? Look at what CM said in the middle of Modi's retirement requests

The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, April 1 responded to growing speculation about his political future as Prime Minister of India.

Adityanath said that politics was not full -time work for him and that there is a yogi in his soul, rejecting swirling rumors about him to become the Prime Minister in the future.

“I am the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and the party placed me here to serve the people of the state,” said Adityanath in an interview Pti.

Asked about the growing support for him as a potential Prime Minister, said Adityanath, politics is not full -time work for me. In the end, I am a yogi (monk) in the soul.

Yogi’s reaction comes a day after the chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), Sanjay Raut, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur from Maharashtra on Sunday to announce his retirement. RAUT also said that a closed -door meeting had come to discuss Prime Minister Modi's successor, adding that the next Prime Minister will go from Maharashtra.

The chief minister of the Maharashtra and head of the BJP, became Fadnavis, rejected Raut's complaint and said that it was not necessary to seek the successor of the Modis PM because he will continue to hold the highest position in 2029.

Regarding how long he plans to stay in politics, the chief minister of the Uttar Pradesh said: “There will also be a delay for this”.

When asked if his answer meant that politics was not his permanent profession, Adityanath reiterated: “Yes, that's what I say.”

This is not the first time that speculation around the retirement and the succession of PM Modi swirl. In May 2024, before the Lok Sabha elections, speculation was moving about the retirement of the MODIS PM after 75 years in September 2025. However, several key leaders of the BJP, including Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, rejected complaints.

The BJP lost the majority to Lok Sabha for the first time since 2014 in the general elections of 2024.

Who will succeed Modi?

In addition to Yogi Adityanath, who has been the chief minister of the UP since 2017, the Ministers of the Union Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari are also considered as successors of Modis.

Gadkari, however, said on several occasions that he does not aspire to become Prime Minister of India. Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and the Cabinet's Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that no one in the saffron party would ask him to take the first job in the future.

In an interview with Weekly, based in London,The EconomistIn December of last year, Gadkari was called one of the most popular ministers of the government of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Modi-Dirigé by Modi and one of the candidates to succeed Modi.

THE Economist wrote that Modi's position was not immediately threatened and that opinion polls suggest that the Minister of the Interior Amit Shah is the favorite. The chief minister of UP Yogi Adityanath is second, followed by Gadkari. But Mr. Modi's successor will be decided by the upper ranks of the BJP and the RSS, and not by opinion polls, indicates the play. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is the ideological mentor of the BJP.

What PM Modi said about his successor

In one of the election rallies last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejected the allegations of the opposition leaders suggesting that he has anointed friend Shah as his successor, affirming that no arrangement of this type has been taken.

“I have no inheritance, you are my inheritance and you are also my heir,” said Prime Minister Modi during his speech in the Maharajganj of Bihar.

Modi's remarks occur after the national candidate of the AAM AADMI party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal, alleged that Prime Minister Modi, who was 75 years old in 2025, appointed the Minister of the Interior Amit Shah as a successor.
