Vice-president JD Vance condemned European countries last month for a lack of commitment to democracy, because many of them attack attacks by the law against populist leaders.

Vance's criticism applies, however, to Europe, because populist leaders around the world are faced with legal and simple legal prohibitions with criminal convictions.

Here are the best populist leaders confronted with the most pressure.

1. Marine Le Pen, France

The right-wing French politician Marine Le Pen and several members of her National Rally Party ascendant were found guilty of embezzlement of funds on Monday, and she herself was prohibited from presenting herself to the 2027 presidential election.

Populist leaders from all over Europe have condemned the verdict, pointing its important advance in the ballot boxes.

“Those who fear the judgment of voters often seek to reassure the courts. In Paris, they condemned Marine Le Pen and wish to withdraw her from political life,” said Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini after the verdict of the Pen.

“We are not intimidated,” he added. “At full speed, my friend!”

2. Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil

The Supreme Brazils court accepted the accusations against former president Jair Bolsonaro last week for an alleged attempt to remain in office after his electoral defeat in 2022, ordering the former head of trial.

The five judges ruled in favor of accepting the accusations led by the Attorney General Paulo Gonet, who accused Bolsonaro and 33 other people of having tried a coup who included a plan to poison his successor, the current president Luiz Incio Lula da Silva, and kill a judge of the Supreme Court.

The former president has repeatedly denied reprehensible acts and said that he was politically persecuted.

Under Brazilian law, a conviction for coup is sentenced to 12 years old. When combined with other charges, it could lead to a sentence of decades behind bars.

3. Calin Georgescu, Romania

Calin Georgescu won the first round of the presidential elections in Romania earlier this year, only for the elections to be canceled due to allegations of Russian collusion in favor of Georgescu.

Georgescu was then placed in police custody and has since been forbidden to appear in the elections, despite the polls.

The 2019 incident saw offshore migrants on a humanitarian rescue ship. The Italian courts abandoned the charges against Slavini in December.

“The border protection of our countries of smugglers is not a crime,” said Salvini shortly after the verdict. “It is a victory for the League and for Italy.”

5. Imran Khan, Pakistan

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was imprisoned last month for corruption accusations, although many of his supporters compared his situation to that of President Donald Trump and the accusations he was confronted with.

A Pakistani court sentenced Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to 14 and seven years in prison after having deemed them guilty of corruption. They were convicted of having allegedly accepted land like a bridge pot through the Al-Qadir Trust, which they had created while Khan was in office. Khan, however, maintains his innocence, describing events as a “witch hunt” in exclusive comments to Fox News Digital. This is only one of the more than 100 cases that he is confronted.
