Prime Minister Modi arrived in Thailand today for a two -day visit to attend the sixth summit of Bimstec. Upon arrival, Modi was received by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit.
The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is an international organization of seven nations of Southern Asia and Southeast Asia. The member states of Bimstec of the States of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand are among the dependent countries of Bengal Bay.
PM Modi to hold a bilateral meeting with Yunus in Thailand

Since the interim government of Yunus took care after the eviction of Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, the links of India-Bangladesh have weakened, Delhi expressing concerns about the increase in attacks against Hindu and the growing influence of hard Islamist groups.
During his recent visit to China, Yunus urged Beijing to extend his economic presence at Bangladesh, suggesting controversial that the northeast states of India could benefit from it. He described the Bangladesh as “the only ocean goalkeeper” in the region, which implies that this could serve as an economic bridge for China. The remarks triggered dissatisfaction in India, which prompted the officials of Bangladesh to issue clarifications.
