Jokowi’s political safari is a test of his power until 2029
According to Adi, Jokowi’s decision has given rise to many political interpretations, because previously the former two-term president expressed his desire to return to Solo and become an ordinary citizen after leaving the presidency.
“But today, Jokowi said he was willing to travel throughout Indonesia following regional invitations, to meet PSI executives and volunteers,” Adi said via his YouTube channel, Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The director of Indonesian political settings believes that Jokowi’s moves show that he does not really want to leave the national political scene.
“This indicates that Jokowi does not want to stop even though he was President of the Republic of Indonesia for two terms, once governor of Jakarta, once mayor of Solo. But for Jokowi, this is not the end of everything,” he said.
Adi even said there was a perception that Jokowi was plotting a political comeback after stepping down as head of state.
However, Adi questioned whether the Indonesia travel program was really just an ordinary visit to absorb people’s aspirations. Because currently, Jokowi is no longer president or public official with the power to make and execute policies.
For this reason, he said, the public began to suspect that there was a political message that Jokowi wanted to emphasize through these top-down activities.
First, Jokowi is suspected of wanting to strengthen the political power of the Indonesian Solidarity Party. This is related to Jokowi’s previous statement that he was ready to do everything possible to increase the PSI.
“The first hypothesis is that Jokowi wants to strengthen the political power of the PSI. Because some time ago we heard openly that Jokowi was ready to do everything possible to desperately raise the PSI,” he explained.
Aside from that, Adi continued, it is believed that Jokowi’s intensity in reaching out to society could have an electoral effect on his son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is currently vice president.
“The public confirms that Jokowi often falls, so people who like and love Jokowi will provide more and more political support to his son, Mas Gibran,” he said.
Still, Adi believes it is too early to determine whether Jokowi’s political influence is still as strong as when he was president or whether it is starting to wane.
“Whether Jokowi remains as strong as before when he became president or on the contrary he has no power, this supernatural power will be visible in 2029,” he concluded.
