AFP says youth formally warned of online threats against Indian PM Modi
The Australian Federal Police have formally warned a person who made death threats against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ahead of his arrival in the country later this week.
An AFP spokesperson said the source of an online threat against Mr Modi was identified and questioned on July 3.
“After evaluating the case, the young person received a formal warning,” said an AFP spokesperson.
“There is no current or imminent risk to the community.”
The AFP spokesperson said any alleged criminal behavior, including threats and harassment, would be taken seriously and investigated.
Mr Modi, who has been India’s prime minister for the past 12 years, will travel to Melbourne this week for an official visit.
He is due to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the annual leaders’ summit and take part in a community event at Marvel Stadium.
