Asad Umar calls for a balance between foreclosure and a running economy
ISLAMABAD – Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar on Tuesday called for a balance between controlling the spread of COVID19 and keeping the economy going and warned that no law or police can prevent them people to go out on the street if they don’t get the basic necessities.
“No one is arguing and no country in the world is saying that they shouldn’t be restricting or locking in, but if there are too many restrictions and people cannot provide for their basic needs, no matter what how many laws you apply or how many police you deploy cannot keep people out. “
Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said this at a joint press conference with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar and the Prime Minister’s special assistant on health, Dr. Zafar Mirza .
He said today (Wednesday), the 6th meeting of the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) will take place under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan to finalize a uniform strategy regarding lockdowns and restrictions.
Regarding the foreclosure, Asad Umar said that policymakers, not only in Pakistan but around the world, will have to find a way to maintain a balance between preventing the spread of the coronavirus and keeping the economy going. On the one hand, you must stop the spread of the disease to save your citizens from death, and on the other hand, you must be careful not to create a situation where the economic burden is too high, which leads to the spread of hunger and poverty throughout society.

Similarly, for two-way communication, representatives of the NCC were also placed with chief secretaries of all provinces, said Asad Umar. Security institutions are also part of the NCC, and a lieutenant-general has been appointed chief.
The minister said that Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has received 50 billion rupees to secure supplies of essential goods and that new measures are being taken to meet the needs of nationals living in remote parts of the country. Umar said the government has created a mechanism through the NCC and the National Command Center to monitor utility stores across the country.
Regarding the economic recovery plan, the Minister of Planning said that 12 million families, which cover a third of the country’s population, will receive 12,000 rupees under the relief mechanism. Previously, it had been decided that the money would be given to deserving families in four different installments, but it has now been decided that the aid would be given in one go.
