Added three coaches to strength and conditioning staff
PHILADELPHIA Temple UniversityAssistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance Tim Teefy announced the addition of three new strength and conditioning coaches, Rashan Chanyothic, Kristen Cole and Zach Purcillyto his staff.
“We are delighted to welcome Rashan, Kristen and Zach to our Temple coaching staff,” said Teefy. “All three bring a wealth of experience and fit nicely into our mission to maximize the performance of our student-athletes.”
Chanyothi, who will oversee the strength and conditioning programs for Field Hockey, Crew and Men’s Tennis, was an Assistant Sports Performance Coach in Georgetown last year and worked directly with Field Hockey, Women’s Rowing, Track & Field (XC & Sprinters/Jumpers) along with serving as an assistant for soccer and men’s lacrosse. Prior to Georgetown, he was a full-time trainee strength and conditioning coach at Army West Point (2020-2021). He was also an intern in performance and sports science in Pittsburgh while earning his master’s degree in sports science (’20).
Chanyothi, who received his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Temple in the program’s exercise and sports science concentration in 2017, originally began his career in strength and conditioning at Platoon Fitness and Overachieves Sports & Speed (2017-2019). The native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. has certifications from the National Strength & Conditioning Association (CSCS), USA Weightlifting (USAW-L1) and Functional Range Systems (FRCms).
Cole, who will oversee the strength and conditioning programs for volleyball, golf, men’s and women’s cross-country, joins Temple after spending the past two years at Stony Brook, started as an intern in August 2020 before being promoted to assistant athletic performance coach in February 2021. There she worked specifically with soccer, men’s and women’s athletics, women’s swimming and diving, and women’s volleyball.
The Long Island, NY native worked as an undergraduate student intern at the University of Delaware while earning her bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2020 with a minor in strength and conditioning. She also has a master’s degree in liberal studies with a concentration in coaching from Stony Beek (2022). She is certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and is CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross.
Purcilly, who will oversee the strength and conditioning programs for Men’s Soccer, Women’s Track & Field and Women’s Tennis, is coming to Temple after serving as an Olympic strength and conditioning officer in Michigan for the past year, with his primary responsibility to assist in design and implementation of strength training and conditioning for 21 Olympic sports. He also developed and implemented training programs for the volunteer assistant coach of Wolverines Volleyball who plays professionally for Athletes Unlimited while assisting in the training of a former Wolverine, now professional hammer/weight thrower.
The Troy, Michigan native, who earned his bachelor’s (’18) and master’s (’19) degrees in exercise science and exercise physiology from Eastern Michigan, also served as lead strength and conditioning coach for Ann Arbor Huron High School from 2020-2021. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and an American weightlifting sports performance coach.
