Buckeyes score early and often in 6-2 win over Dayton
Columbus, OH Ohio State's 2024 home debut was a winning one, as the Buckeyes built a 6-0 lead after three innings and cruised to a 6-2 victory against the Flyers on Wednesday afternoon. Ohio State improved to 18-10 on the season, while Dayton is now 13-13.
The short story
An attack of 12 hits was followed by Jasmine burns (3-for-4 with a double and an RBI), McKenzie Bump (2-for-3 with a double) and Hanna Church (2-for-3 with a double), as Ohio State's offense scored one in the first inning, two in the second and three in the third.
Starting pitcher Allison Smith threw 3.2 innings and allowed only one hit. Fellow senior Emily Ruck finished the game and played the final 3.1 innings to record her fourth win of the season.

Second inning: McKenzie Bump singled to the pitcher, scoring pinch runner Cadyn Rufferwho was ahead Hanna Church after she led off the inning with a double.
Jasmine burns singled to left field with two outs, scoring Bump. In total, Ohio State's inning featured two runs, four hits and two runners on base.
Third inning: Kirsten Eppele doubled to left center field; Kaitlyn Farleywho walked with one out earlier in the inning, scored.
Tegan Cortellitti doubled to left field, scoring both Eppele and Hanna Church. Church had singled through the left side in her at-bat.
Sixth inning: Dayton scored the two runs on a two-out double from the right field wall. However, Ruck recorded the final out of the inning on a strikeout.

- Burns' 3-for-4 performance was her sixth multi-hit game of the season, third-highest on the team. Tegan Cortellitti (eight) and McKenzie Bump (seven) are the only two players with more.
