Women's tennis starts homestand with 4-0 win over Oral Roberts
OMAHA, born —The Creighton women's tennis team opened its five-match homestand with a 4-0 victory over Oral Roberts at the Hanscom Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
The Bluejays improved to 10-6 on the season with the win, while the Golden Eagles fell to 5-10 overall.
Senior Malvika Shukla and junior Valerie Negin began Friday's action, cruising to a 6-2 win at top-ranked doubles, earning their sixth straight doubles win at No. 1. Sophomore Annika Elvestrom and oldest Jeanne Geariteit combined for an identical 6-2 victory over No. 3, clinching the doubles point for the Bluejays.
Creighton then closed out the match with a pair of straight-set singles wins over the No. 4 and No. 6 courts, as well as a three-set victory over the No. 5 singles position.
Sophomore Ana Paula Martinez rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 4 singles, while Elvestrom claimed a 6-0, 6-3 victory over No. 6 singles. After dropping the first second 6-4, junior Siri Kongara rallied to seal the doubles victory for the Bluejays with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph in three sets at the No. 5 singles position.
