Golf through 36 holes at Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate
URBANA, IL Graduated student Aidan Laffertyled the Marquette University men's golf team in the first day of action at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate with a 6-over 148 through 36 holes at Atkins Golf Club.
Lafferty shot consecutive rounds of 3-over 74 to lead the MU contingent, including four birdies in the second round of the day. He had two birdies in the opening round on holes three and nine.
Marquette is seventh out of 12 teams in the event, which leads tournament host Illinois heading into Sunday's final round.
Wil Hemauer And Max Lyon each posted a team-best three birdies in the opening round. After starting the day on the back nine, Hemauer birdied the par-5 first and par-4 third holes after making the turn at even par.
The Wauwatosa, Wisconsin native makes the lineup for the second time in his career after an impressive performance in team qualifying ahead of this week's event.
The course will be played this week as a par 71 at 7,503 yards and Sunday's final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Central Time after a 30-minute frost delay. The Golden Eagles will begin the third round at 8:48 a.m. on the 10th tee and will be paired with UC San Diego and BIG EAST Conference counterpart Butler.
