Former Alabama football player Terrance Howard dies after being hit by car
Former American football player Terrance Howard died last week from injuries he sustained when he was struck by a vehicle in North Carolina, according to multiple sources.
Howard, a Texas native who was a walk-on for the Crimson Tide in 2023, transferred to North Carolina Central during the offseason. He was moving his belongings from Alabama to North Carolina when the accident happened, his mother Houston's KHOU-11 TV told.
Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer spoke about Howard's death during his press conference in Tuscaloosa on Sunday.
Before I comment on the team, I just want to send my thoughts and prayers, DeBoer said. Terrance Howard, who was with us and transferred to North Carolina Central, passed away and he has a number of guys that are close to him here on this team that are thinking of him as well. I just want to send my prayers and thoughts to his family.
Howard was involved in a minor traffic accident near Salisbury, N.C., and got out of his car to check on the other driver. A third car then struck him, seriously injuring him, according to KPRC TV in Houston.
Howard was admitted to Charlotte with serious injuries, where he later died. He had no identification on him at the time of the accident, so it took several days for him to notify his family.
Howard did not play in a game for Alabama in 2023 as a true freshman defensive back, but did travel with the team to the Rose Bowl College Football Playoff semifinals. He was reportedly offered a full scholarship to North Carolina Central, an HBCU school in Durham.
