Waves Women's Tennis Releases Fall Schedule
MALIBU, California The Pepperdine women's tennis team announced its schedule on Thursday after reaching the NCAA semifinals for the second time in program history.
Head coach According to NilssonThe team will compete in six guaranteed tournaments this fall. Pepperdine's six-woman team will leave the state of California just once, for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships in Cary, N.C., before the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in Waco, Texas, Nov. 19-24.
The 2024 fall season will be uncharted territory for college tennis, as NCAA titles are on the line. Beginning this season, the singles and doubles championships are scheduled for November 19-24 in Waco, Texas; prior to this season, the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships followed immediately after the conclusion of the national team championships in May. Players and doubles teams earn berths to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships based on finishes in various ITA tournaments, as outlined on the organization's website.
As in the past three seasons, Pepperdine's fall campaign begins with the Battle of the Bay Tournament, held Sept. 12-15 in San Francisco, California. From there, players who qualify for the ITA All-American Championships will travel to Cary, North Carolina, Sept. 21-29. This is the first major opportunity to earn a spot in the NCAA.
In October, Pepperdine stays local, traveling across town to USC for the Women of Troy Invitational Oct. 4-6. Two weeks later, the Waves compete at the ITA Regionals, co-hosted by San Diego and San Diego State Oct. 17-22.
Pepperdine will compete in two tournaments in Southern California in November: the USD Invitational (Nov. 1-3) and the ITA D1 Sectional Championships, held at USC Nov. 7-10. Should either Wave earn a spot at the NCAAs, they will compete for national championships in Waco, Texas at Baylor University Nov. 19-24.
This year the team is expected to return two members from last year's All-American campaign (21-7) Savannah Broadus and NCAA All-Tournament team selection Vivian Yang where they were outright West Coast Conference champions. Earlier this summer, Pepperdine's four-woman recruiting class of Taylor Goetz, Alexia Harmon, Liam Oved And Duru Soke was assessed the best middle class and the fifth best in the country according to the Tennis Recruiting Network.
