Tennis Channel removes Jon Wertheim 'indefinitely' after mocking Wimbledon champion on air | Tennis | Sport
Jon Wertheim has been indefinitely removed from Tennis Channels broadcasts following controversial comments he made regarding Barbora Krejcikova's physical performance at the WTA Tour Finals. Wimbledon champion Krejickova criticized Wertheim for unprofessional comments and claims she was shown a lack of respect.
Ahead of Tennis Channels' broadcast of the Friday WTA Finals action kicks off, a clip shows the journalist – who joined via video call – asking other guests: “What do you think I am? Barbara Krejcikova? Look at the forehead when Krejcikova and Zheng [Qinwen] go to court.”
Tennis Channel has announced that Wertheim has been removed from their coverage indefinitely.
A statement read: When Tennis Channel became aware of an inappropriate comment about a professional tennis player made by our analyst Jon Wertheim on Friday, we immediately took it off the air indefinitely.
The network also apologized to the player, Barbora Krejcikova, as did Jon. Jon has dedicated his career to highlighting and growing this sport and is a valued member of our family and tennis community.
That said, Tennis Channel holds its employees to a standard of respect for others at all times, a standard that was not currently being met.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened in the sports world. I have often chosen not to say anything, but I think it is time to address the need for respect and professionalism in sports media.
These moments distract from the true essence of sport and the dedication that all athletes bring to the field. I love tennis very much, and I want it to be represented in a way that honors the commitment we make to compete at this level.
Wertheim claims he apologized to Krejcikova as soon as he was informed the clip had been made public. He says the comments were made during a rehearsal and were not intended to be played on air.
“During a Tennis Channel studio show on Friday, I made some very regrettable comments off-air. I acknowledge them. I apologize. I immediately reached out and apologized to the player,” Wertheim said on X.
“What happened? I joined the show via Zoom. During rehearsal we were shown an image of a player who had just participated. It showed her at an angle that made her forehead look exaggerated.
“A few moments later I was told to frame my Zoom. I looked at the low camera angle and joked that it made my forehead look like the photo of the player in question. Someone in the control room chimed in and I joked back. Although Although this was a private rehearsal, this exchange was broadcast live unintentionally and without context.
“I realize: I am not the victim here. It was neither professional, nor charitable, nor reflective of the person I try to be. I am responsible. I own this. I am sorry.”
