Shahpur Jirga demands resumption of road works – Newspaper
SHANGLA: Members of the Shahpur jirga called on the provincial authorities to repair the Shahpur-Kapar Banda road, which the contractor had abandoned after digging it up for widening.
Addressing the jirga, which was convened at the Government High School in Shahpur, the local elders asked the government to immediately resume road construction, which landed them in trouble. Ziaul-haq, Tariq Rauf, Abbas Khan, Maulana Habibullah of Chichlo and others spoke on the occasion.
They said that despite their protests, the government had ignored the incompleteness, disrepair and inability to travel, leading to fatal traffic accidents. The project was approved by the previous government and put out to bid in 2020, but the contractor left it unfinished, said Ziaul-haq, a former Nazim of the union council.
According to Tariq Rauf, they had asked the government to finance the contractor and complete it as soon as possible, which would revolutionize tourism in Shangla. All jirga members called on the government to resume work on the road project to boost tourism and ease the suffering of local people.
