Bemidji Boy Tennis to lean on experience of young and old talent for 2025
With all the warm weather, the tennis courts at Bemidji High School have thawed and the boys practice for what they hope that their season opener will be later this week, mother nature in treatment.
The Houthakkers have quite a bit of experience with returning after graduating two regular starters from last year's team. They give Seniors Dominic Arndt, Jack McNallan, Max Louvar and Brooks Johnson back, as well as Junior Peter Mathews. Last season they all played a considerable number of games in both Doubles and Singles.

“I am just excited to play singles, Doubles, one, two, three, four. Where Coach really places me,” Johnson added. “I just love the sport. It's really fun. I am excited to help the team as I can.”
He also spoke about part of the younger talent in the team. “I think a positive reinforcement, especially for these younger children who are coming, it's just great to share that culture with them. I love the culture we have here at Bemidji Tennis and just really positive reinforcement.”
The Jacks also have experience of a number of underclass, including second -year Ethan Frank and first -year Josh Arel and Owen Lappinga, who started the Varsity as eighth classes last year. Lappinga was regularly rotated on Singles Court One.
“The more you play, the more relaxed you become, the more you know what to expect and things like that,” said Lappinga. “And wherever I play, I'm going to be happy. And the experience factor of normal playing helps a lot. And I'm just super enthusiastic to play some tennis.”
“Some of our younger players on the Roster are actually, in some respects, some of our more experienced players compared to some others,” said head coach Kyle Fodness. “You, in high school athletics, always look at your leadership to feel a little more confident on the field or on the field. And it helps when much of that leadership comes from different figures.”
