Sterling Carvalho as Kahuku main football coach
HONOLULU (HawaiineWsnow) – Despite winning three of the last four championships, Sterling Carvalho is no longer head coach of the Kahuku High Football Program.
After the acquisition of the Red Raiders Varsity Football Program in 2018, Carvalho Big Red led to three consecutive state championship titles.
The team came from his fourth title competition in the same number of years when the news about the departure of Carvalhos left what scratches left.
In a letter sent to parents of student athletes on 31 March, director Donna Lindsey did not give many details:
Coach Sterling Carvalho will no longer serve as the head coach of the KHIS football program.
The letter also stated that an interim head coach is allocated while they start selecting a new head coach.
Hawaii News now reached for school officials for the reason for the dismissal of Carvalhos and has been appointed as an interim coach. We wait to hear again.
During his term of office at the Red Raiders, Carvalho won a record of 59-18 with four OIA championships and three straight state titles.
Under his selection framework victories: Kahukus victory over St. John Bosco in third place at home in 2023.
Word of the split quickly spread with a few former players surprised by the news.
It was a bit of a shock for me, but you know, it is what it is at the end of the day, former Kahuku player and Carvalhos cousin, Mana Carvalho, now told Hawaii News. He separates manners from Kahuku and them too, so I mean, it's just for the best of both. I don't really choose a side and only understand both sides of the story.
Mana Carvalho was Kahukus Do-It-All Star for four years. He grew up like a water boy for Kahuku and then remembers the Red Raiders through four different head coaches, from 2013 to 2017, before his uncle was promoted from the Junior Varsity team.
It was absolutely confusing for me. Like only one season, maybe two seasons, then changed coaches, said Mana Carvalho. I know from a player position, having the same coach in your high school (career) is a big problem only because of the connection you are going to make.
Mana Carvalho recently graduated to become a member of the football program of the University of Utah. He feels for the current schedule and the adjustment they have to make under new leadership.
It will be quite difficult for the boys, knowing that they just lost their head coach, said Mana Carvalho. Maybe not. Everythings is going crazy there, so just, you know, hoping for the best for players and the other coaching staff.
