Battlefield Mass Grave from the Roman era discovered under Vienna football field | Austria
While the construction teams held up dirt to renovate a football field in Vienna last October, they found an unprecedented find: a lot of interwoven skeletal remains in a massive grave dating from the Roman Empire of the first century, probably the bodies of warriors killed in a fight with Germanic Tribes.

One of the biggest indications was the presence of a dagger of a type that is specifically between the middle of the first century and the beginning of the second.

Until now, only one victim has been confirmed as a Roman legionary. Archaeologists hope that DNA and strontium isotope analysis will help the hunters identify and whose side they were.
Adler-Wlfl said: The most likely theory at the moment is that this is connected to the Danube campaigns of Emperor Domitian that is 86 to 96 AD.
The archaeologists said they had also found signs of the establishment of the settlement that would be Vienna.
