Netflix appoints Epic Games' Alan Tascan as president of games

Epic Games' Alan Tuscan will take over as head of Netflix's growing games division.

Tuscan most recently served as executive vice president of game development at Epic Games, where he oversaw all first-party game development for “Fortnite,” “LEGO Fortnite,” “Rocket League” and “Fall Guys.” In his new role, Tuscan will report directly to Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters.

Tuscan's appointment as president of Netflix games comes a month after the streamer announced that Mike Verdu, a Facebook and EA veteran who was previously Netflix's vice president of games, would move to a new role focused on “transformative innovation in game creation and development.”

Netflix launched its gaming business in November 2021 and has since acquired four game studios: Night School, Boss Fight, Next Games, and Spry Fox. The company has built two in-house studios in Southern California and Helsinki.

Netflix has released more than 100 games to date, including its own self-developed Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, named one of the best games of 2023, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, and titles based on Netflix's hit IP, such as Too Hot to Handle, Virgin River, and Money Heist. Netflix currently has more than 80 games in development, including Emily in Paris, Selling Sunset, and a multiplayer game based in the Squid Game universe, which is set to debut alongside the launch of season 2 of the TV series later this year.

Netflix recently began testing games on TVs and computers in several countries as part of a long-term strategy to make games available on all devices.

Prior to joining Epic, Tascan founded Ubisoft and EA's Montreal studios, where he worked on titles such as “Army of Two,” “Need for Speed: Nitro” and “Batman Vengeance.” Tascan was also founder and CEO of Umi Games, developer of the mobile game “Family Feud Live.”
