Google is a company in transformation, but the “from” and “to” aren't always clear. To catalog and explore Google's moves in this new era of generative AI, Ars Technica is looking for a senior technology reporter focused on Google, AI, Android, and search. While attention to so-called “consumer products” will be important, the role will focus on Google's bigger moves as a technology and infrastructure company — moves it makes to counter what it sees as threats from companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Perplexity. Informed skepticism is the rule here, so we're looking for someone capable of bringing a critical eye to some deep technical and business issues.

This is a senior role with significant responsibilities, so it's not an entry-level position – we're looking for someone who is largely autonomous when it comes to reporting, and equally comfortable working remotely within a remote team, and who can provide deep, intelligent analysis on broader Google topics while also covering smaller day-to-day news stories.

This is a full-time union job with benefits.
