Magnitude 6.2 earthquake strikes off Indonesia’s Sulawesi island

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia on Monday.

The earthquake reportedly occurred 97 kilometers west and northwest of Luwak in Indonesia.

Authorities said no tsunami warning was issued even as the quake was felt in Palu in Sulawesi, 200 km from the epicenter.

There were no reports of casualties so far.

Earlier this month, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Sulawesi at a depth of 68 km.

In January, at least a hundred people were killed and thousands displaced after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Sulawesi.

In 2018, a strong earthquake occurred on the island of Lombok with another in the following weeks killing more than 550 people.
