The Mentawai Islands in West Sumatra was struck by a 5.3 magnitude quake

Padang, West Sumatra (Antara) – A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.3 degrees has hit Pagat, Mentawai Islands region, West Sumatra, on Saturday, around 5:36 am local time, although there were no immediate reports of injuries in the aftermath of a strong earthquake .

The epicenter of the earthquake is about 40 km southwest of Tua Pagat, at a depth of 28 km, according to the Meteorological Agency of Meteorology, Geoscience and Geophysics (BMKG) Padang Bangang Station.

Mamori spokesman BMKG-Padang Panjang said the earthquake had no capacity to trigger a tsunami, and local residents were advised to calm down.
